Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Interior Hussein Al-Majali, on Tuesday, said that Jordan does not face any internal threat that could lead to a security disorder in the Kingdom.
Al-Majali made his remarks in a panel discussion with members of the Jordan Strategies Forum, where he pointed to his ministry's intention to establish a unit to protect strategic facilities, funded by the private sector.
The minister said that Jordan, thanks to its leadership and social fabric, had overcome difficulties, indicating that the Kingdom's geographical location had negatively impacted the country lately.
He reviewed the Syrian refugee crisis, limited economic and infrastructure potential, and the extent to which Jordan has been enduring the ramification of this crisis.
As for the Arab Spring, the top security official pointed to the investors' fear of investing in the region, but assured that Jordan was a safe haven for investments because of the way security forces dealt with demonstrations, protests and strikes that resulted from several labor claims.
Referring to the interior ministry's role in protecting strategic facilities, the minister underlined plans to establish a special unit to protect strategic installations, particularly in remote places, to deal with security problems that might arise in those facilities and to ensure quick access to these facilities. He talked about the possibility of the private sector funding this unit in the near future.
Quick and substantial amendments to the laws are currently being processed, especially those regarding the implementation of provisions, Al-Majali said.
He added that the private sector should be involved in the amendments required in the regulations and instructions as they were a result of the feedback from investors' associations, pointing out to modifications in regulations related to the tourism sector.
The interior ministry stressed the importance of everyone respecting the laws and preserving the rule of law in Jordan.
Jordan Strategies Forum is a non-profit organization created in order to engage the private sector in a constructive dialogue on economic and social issues that matter to the Jordanian citizens. It brings together leading institutions and companies from the Jordanian private sector, as well as opinion makers and stakeholders in economic affairs, to maximize the contribution of the private sector in the overall development.
Earlier, the chair of the Jordan Strategy Forum's administrative board, Omar Razzaz, initiated a dialogue session, tagged, "The impact of the security situation on investment in Jordan," which highlighted the pivotal role of the private sector in supporting the national economy.
