Jordan is closest to Palestine - foreign minister

29-11-2014 10:27 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Minster of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Nasser Judeh, has said that Jordan is the closest to Palestine in terms of geography, history and common destiny, and this is why the country is in absolute solidarity with the Palestinians and their just cause.

Judeh's remarks came as he led the Jordanian delegation to the Arab peace initiative commission meetings and the urgent meeting for Arab foreign ministers in Cairo, adding that his Majesty King Abdullah II emphasized repeatedly that Jordan’s core issue is the Palestinian cause and their right to establish a sovereign state on their national soil.

The foreign minister told the meeting, which was attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, that the Palestinian leadership seeks assurances for Palestinian rights and supports all efforts to resume serious, committed and timely negotiations to ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He clarified that all international powers as well as all Arabs should work to resume direct negotiations and adopt a unified approach to finding a climate for negotiations through exercising pressure on Israel to stop settlement activities and all unilateral actions that target occupied East Jerusalem and Islamic and Christian holy sites, especially the alleged Temple Mount.

The Arab League issued a resolution at the conclusion of the meeting stating its appreciation and support of the intensive efforts exerted by His Majesty King Abdullah II within the framework of the King's custodianship and protection of the holy places in Jerusalem, which stopped Israel’s repeated attacks in the holy city, and the council's rejection of all Israeli attempts to harm the Hashemite historical right.
