Egyptian Salafist party denies ‘sex tape’ scandal

12-11-2014 01:10 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Egypt’s Islamist al-Nour Party has been plagued by a new scandal this week after a man who is reported to be a member of the party appeared in home made sex tapes that have been widely circulated online.

The man reportedly filmed several sex tapes of himself and a number of women, local media reports said.

Al-Nour published a statement on Facebook saying the man was never a party member and added that it regarded the incident as an attempt to harm the party’s reputation ahead of upcoming parliamentary elections.

“[This is] an attempt to defame the party for political reasons,” the party said on its page, as quoted by Ahram Online.

While al-Nour has vowed to take legal actions against “defamers,” the incident has cast a shadow on the party, which was previously reported to have been involved in other scandals.

The ultra-conservative Salafist party occupied the second-highest number of seats in the 2012 parliament – Egypt’s last parliament - under ousted President Mohammad Mursi.

One of its MPs was caught performing an “indecent” act in public with a woman and was sentenced to four months in prison.

Another member had his parliament membership withdrawn after he lied about alleged facial injuries claiming he was violently attacked. It was later revealed that Anwar El-Balkimy had undergone a plastic surgery procedure on his nose in what has been dubbed the “nose job scandal.”
