Jordan picks U.S. civil helicopters for basic helo pilot training

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 16 (UPI) Light helicopters from the Robinson Helicopter Company have been selected by the Royal Jordanian Air Force as pilot training aircraft.
The aircraft selected is the R44 Raven II, which has a cruise speed of 130 miles per hour and a range of 300 nautical miles.

The aircraft, which will replace Hughes 500D helicopters that have been in service at the King Hussein Air College since 1981, are equipped with Garmin and Aspen glass avionics and the Bendix King's new military KTR909 UHF transceiver.

Robinson Helicopter said it will deliver four R44s to Jordan at the end of this year with more will be delivered early 2015.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Robinson said 10 Royal Jordanian Air Force pilots have attended a company safety course in preparation for delivery of the aircraft and 12 RJAF mechanics will attend the company's maintenance course later this month.
