Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Islamic Action Front, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, has said that the main goal of the US-led war on terrorism is to "redraw the map of the region by expanding Iran's role to become [America's] gatekeeper," Anadolu news agency reported.
"The international coalition started its attacks on the Syrian opposition while keeping silent on the Syrian regime's crimes, including the killing of civilians using chemical weapons," the news agency quoted a statement issued by the Action Front as saying. The statement added that, "This represents an attack on Islam and the hopes of Arabs seeking freedom."
The Islamist party renewed its objection to the participation of Jordan in the US-led anti-Islamic State coalition as it is against foreign interference in the affairs of any of the Arab countries.
In addition, Anadolu reported that the party renewed its support for the Jordanian army in keeping the security and safety of Jordan. "It is not in the interest of the country that our army takes part in wars outside of Jordan's borders," the statement said.
The party described the latest US-led war as against Arabs' interests and questioned where the international community was when 200,000 Syrians were being killed by the regime, when Sunni Muslims were persecuted in Iraq, when the anti-coup Egyptians were killed and thousands of Palestinians in Gaza were massacred during the Israeli military assaults on Gaza.
Last week, the Action Front criticised Iran over its manipulation of the Houthi movement in Yemen. The most recent statement was also critical of Iran's new role in the region, which aims at "reinforcing Iran's sovereignty over the Arab states" while Arab leaders remain silent.
Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, fell into the hands of the Houthis last week, including most of the country's vital institutions. The Shiite rebels are allegedly being supported by Iran.
Meanwhile, Jordan's Interior Minister Hussein Al-Majali assured the public that the security situation in the Kingdom and its borders is "stable and good", reiterating that, "there are no real direct security threats against Jordan".
According to a statement issued by the Jordanian ministerial council, Al-Majali made the comments about the security situation during the council's meeting held on Sunday.
The council stressed that the government, armed forces and security services are all closely following the ongoing developments in many of the neighbouring countries. It also said that all precautions are being taken to protect Jordan's borders from any dangers.
