Jordanian Court Acquits Radical Preacher in Terror Case

24-09-2014 01:20 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A Jordanian court has acquitted radical preacher Abu Qatada on charges related to a plot to attack tourists during New Year's celebrations in 2000.

The court ruled Wednesday there was not enough evidence against him.

His lawyer and judicial sources expect him to be released as early as Wednesday.

In June, the preacher was acquitted in a separate case, which involved charges of conspiring to carry out a terror attack on an American school in Amman.

He was originally convicted in absentia in that case in 1999 and sentenced to life in prison, but received a retrial after being extradited from Britain last year.
