King meets with U.S. Secretary of State

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday, said Jordan backs regional and international efforts that are designed to fight terrorism and extremism, stemming from its firm belief that terrorists groups and organizations pose a serious and direct threat to regional and global security and stability.

The King made the remarks during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry in Amman this evening. King Abdullah and Kerry tackled a number of Middle East issues, especially efforts to bring about peace and efforts underway for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The meeting dealt with developments in Iraq and Syria.

The King told the top U.S. diplomat that the Palestinian cause remains the core of the conflict in the region and emphasized that the U.S. has a leading role to set the ground for the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations, which he stressed, must address all final status issues in accordance with the two-state solution, the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.

While highlighting Jordan's non-stop humanitarian and medical assistance to the Palestinian people in Gaza, His Majesty stressed that efforts, at this stage, should focus on the reconstruction of Gaza following the recent Israeli offensive.

Kerry explained his country's vision on the reconstruction of Gaza, peacemaking efforts, developments in Iraq and Syria. He also spoke about U.S.-led efforts to combat terrorism and extremist groups, commending Jordan's efforts in promoting regional and global peace and stability.
