Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan has welcomed the UN Security Council's unanimously adopted resolution to suppress the threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) and Al-Nusra Front in the region.
Jordan's Deputy U.N. Ambassador Mahmoud Hmoud told the UN Security Council last night that Jordan adopts the United Kingdom-led resolution which aims to combat the terrorist threat of the ISIS and list any individuals or groups providing support to them by financing, arming, planning or recruiting for on the Al-Qaeda sanctions list.
Hmoud also condemned what he called the "barbarous" actions of the extremist groups and their supporters, noting that international solidarity was needed to fight them.
He underlined the importance of political progress in Iraq that recognized the rights of all Iraqis as the most effective way to fight terrorism in the country, stressing that ISIS and the other groups did not represent Sunnis in the country.
In addition, he maintained that the main cause of the crisis in Syria was not terrorism but the marginalization of legitimate opposition groups, which had exacerbated the terrorist threat.
The Deputy U.N. Ambassador added that Jordan would continue to promote cooperation at the regional and international level to fight terrorism.
