King, Obama discuss situation in Gaza

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II discussed with US President Barack Obama, the latest developments in the region, mainly the situation in Gaza as well as efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire that puts an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people.

During a telephone conversation, the King warned of the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which he said would increase tension in the region and lead to more instability.

The King pointed to efforts exerted by Jordan to put an end to the Israeli offensive, lift the blockade on Gaza and start the reconstruction process in the strip.

His Majesty stressed the need to intensify efforts at all levels to end the Israeli aggression and renew momentum to the peace process through the resumption of peace talks that address all final status issues.

The King and Obama had identical views on the need to fight terrorist groups and examined the latest situation in the region, especially in Syria and Iraq. His Majesty spoke about the burden being shouldered by Jordan as a result of hosting more than 1.4 million Syrians on its territory and thanked the US for its support to the Kingdom in this regard.

The two leaders also reviewed bilateral ties as well as developing the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Obama praised efforts of His Majesty to enhance peace, security and stability in the region as well as to host Syrian refugees in the Kingdom.

He also voiced the US’s keenness to enhance relations with Jordan and maintain coordination and consultations on regional issues.
