Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II discussed with EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, the latest developments in the Middle East as well as efforts to end the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.
During a telephone conversation, the King stressed the importance of the EU's role in working towards ensuring an end to the Israeli aggression and addressing the catastrophic humanitarian impact on the infrastructure and services in Gaza.
In this context, His Majesty pointed to the draft resolution submitted by Jordan on behalf of the Arab Group to the UN Security Council, which calls for lifting the Israeli siege on the coastal enclave and includes a plan to rebuild the Strip.
The King and Ashton also discussed the latest developments in the region, mainly the Syrian crisis and the situation in Iraq as well as ways to boost partnership between Jordan and the EU in various fields.
King Abdullah spoke about the burden being shouldered by the Kingdom as a result of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees on its territory.
Ashton voiced appreciation for Jordan's efforts to serve the refugees and stressed the EU's support to these efforts.
