Jordan Brothers probe alleged secret internal organization

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Al-Hayat learned that the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood has formed a fact-finding committee, a first of its kind, to invest allegations of the existence of a “secret organization” within the group, amidst accusations launched by prominent leaders in the Doves Movement that the Muslim Brotherhood — which is seen as affiliated with the Royal Jordanian Falcons — is behind this organization. The secret organization is accused of running the Brotherhood’s affairs from behind the scenes.

The committee, headed by the prominent Muslim Brotherhood leader Wael al-Sakka, was commissioned by the group’s executive office. It started its work a few days ago, following increased accusations against the Brotherhood leadership, which has gone so far as to accuse the Falcons of “leading an entity that controls the Brotherhood’s decisions, while many figures are taking up leading positions illegitimately.”

The story of the “secret organization” began circulating a few weeks ago when a prominent leader in the Doves movement, Khalil Askar, claimed that he was a former member of the organization. He said that the leaders of this organization were seeking to take hold of the reins of power within the Brotherhood.

A few days passed before another leader in the Doves movement, Ahmed al-Kofahi, claimed as well to be a former member in the same organization, stressing that this entity has been responsible for running the affairs of the Brotherhood and making sure that its leaders take up high positions within the Islamic group.

The talk about this “secret organization” escalated following fierce internal disputes, and the announcement of some leaders within the Doves of a reform initiative known under the name of “Zamzam.” This group accused the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood of favoring Palestinian affairs over the Jordanian issue, insinuating that the disagreements are starting to be based on demography.

For his part, a member of the fact-finding committee said to Al-Hayat that “the committee has already started collecting information about the accusations relating to the existence of a secret organization within the group.”

“All those who made these accusations and those accused of belonging to the organizations will be questioned,” he added.

He also said that “the committee will report back to the Muslim Brotherhood’s executive office.”

In the same context, the No. 2 man in the Brotherhood, Zaki Bani Irsheid, who is one of the main people accused of being behind this “secret organization,” said that “the fact-finding committee will get to the bottom of these accusations. The Muslim Brotherhood leaders were never informed of any information about the existence of such an organization.”

“I personally believe that there is no such thing as a secret organization, and all these accusations are unfounded. They are mere attempts to mislead the public and exaggerate certain interpretations and turn them into big headlines,” he added.

However, the former observer of the Muslim Brotherhood, Abdul Majeed al-Zunaybat, who was among the first to demand to investigate the existence of this organization, told Al-Hayat, “It is strange that the fact-finding committee is formed by the Brotherhood Executive Office, which is the main party accused of running the secret organization. The office ought to form a neutral committee formed by the Shura Council.”

“If the office is determined to conduct fair investigations, than some of its leaders ought to acknowledge that they sought to and were running a secret organization,” he added.

He also said, “The talk about the secret organization is not something new, as it goes back to the 1980s. There are some former members who admitted that they were active within the group, which is led by the Muslim Brotherhood from behind the scenes. The secret organization still exists. It continues to play roles beyond the framework of the Muslim Brotherhood. Its leaders are taking measures that are not related to the Brotherhood’s declared policies and there are people that can testify and confirm what I say.”
