Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Lower House approved a number of articles in a protracted debate on the draft juvenile law during a session on Sunday, chaired by speaker Atef Tarawneh and attended by prime minister Abdullah Ensour and cabinet ministers.
Under a key article passed today, a minor shall not be condemned to death or receive a sentence with hard labour or be shackled, subjected to force or held in solitary confinement, unless he is rebellious or displays force.
The law would also bar the publication of the name or photograph of a juvenile under investigation or on trial or when a verdict is being delivered and to consider juvenile crimes as urgent cases. It also bars detained or sentenced minors from mixing with charged or sentenced adults during any stage of investigation or trial or during the execution of the sentence.
Under another article approved today, members of the prosecution shall be assigned to deal with juvenile criminal matters and that it is forbidden to detain an adolescent or put him in a juvenile education, rehabilitation or care home but only with a warrant issued by the relevant judicial authority.
