Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Juddah headed Jordan's delegation to the 41st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which opened in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Wednesday.
In remarks during the session, Judeh said the Islamic world is facing tremendous challenges that require boosting relations and coordination among the OIC member countries to serve the interest of the Islamic nations.
He said failure to achieve the two-state solution, a solution that should lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, is the reason behind regional instability, adding that this also threatens world peace and security.
Judeh urged all influential parties to work toward ensuring the resumption of serious negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, adding that unless this is achieved, Israel will continue its unilateral actions in the occupied Palestinian lands including settlement construction, and violations against Jerusalem and will continue attempts to change the Arab and Islamic identity of the holy city.
The minister said Jordan will not spare any effort to shoulder its responsibilities towards the Islamic and Christian holy sites in the occupied city based on the Hashemite custodianship of the holy places in the city.
On Syria, Judeh urged Islamic states to work toward ending the Syrian crisis that is affecting all neighbouring countries, pointing to the pressure it is placing on Syria's neighbouring countries, including Jordan which is hosting 1.3 million Syrian refugees.
On Iraq, the minister called for collective work to eradicate terrorism which is threatening all countries and voiced the hope that all parties in Iraq will cooperate to achieve national reconciliation.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Judeh met with his Saudi counterpart Prince Saud Al Faisal and discussed means to boost bilateral ties and coordinate stances towards developments in the region.
The minister also met with his Egyptian counterpart Samih Shukir and reviewed with him bilateral ties as well as issues of common interest.
He also met with his counterparts from Yemen and Kosovo and discussed with them Jordan's relations with their countries.
