Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - "Our armed forces and security agencies are fully ready to protect Jordan from any repercussions that might result from developments in Syria and Iraq," Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Interior Minister Hussein Majali said on Monday.
In remarks during a non official meeting with members of the Lower House of Parliament in the presence of a number of ministers, Judeh and Majali said that what is happening in Iraq right now is linked to the Syrian crisis.
Judeh said that Jordan had warned of terrorism and extremism, noting that their spread is a source of concern, and that Jordan is closely monitoring the situation in Iraq.
The minister ruled out an influx of Iraqi refugees into the Kingdom, adding that Iraqis fleeing the violence are heading to the north of the country.
On the latest Israeli violations against the Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, Judeh said Jordan is following up on this issue, noting that the Kingdom has sent letters to the UN Security Council members, the UN secretary general, and the EU informing about such daily Israeli practices.
Majali on his part said that no Iraqi refugee has so far entered the Kingdom.
He added that contacts have been made with the UNHCR commissioner to provide assistance in cooperation with the Iraqi authorities to Iraqis fleeing towards Jordan inside Iraqi territories.
Jordan, he added, does not intend to open a camp for Iraqi refugees inside its territories, noting that the Interior Ministry has taken all necessary measures to deal with any emergency.
The MPs who praised Jordan's foreign policies, called for closing the borders and prevent the influx of refugees into the Kingdom in the light of the scarcity of resources.
