King discusses with U.S. representative to UN, ties, region

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday received U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power, who is currently visiting the Kingdom.

During the meeting, which was attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II, the King stressed upon the depth of the Kingdom’s strategic partnership with the United States, expressing Jordan’s keenness to boost the ties in various fields to best serve the interests of both the countries.

His Majesty reviewed the latest developments related to the Syrian crisis and its repercussions on the neighboring countries, and Jordan's position which calls for a comprehensive political solution to the crisis that ends the suffering of the Syrian people and preserves the unity of Syria's land and people.

The King pointed to the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan as a result of the large influx of Syrian refugees into Jordan, adding that the Kingdom provides humanitarian and relief services to the refugees that exceed its capacities and place pressure on infrastructure, mainly in the northern and central governorates.

In this context, His Majesty praised the support offered by the UN and its relief organizations, urging the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and support the Kingdom to enable it to continue providing services to the refugees.

The US official hailed Jordan's role in addressing the repercussions of the Syrian crisis and renewed the UN's support to the Kingdom to deal with these repercussions.

She also praised the efforts of His Majesty the King in dealing with issues and challenges facing the region.

The meeting was attended by the Royal Court Chief, the director of the King's Office and the delegation accompanying the US official.
