Gov't reiterates full support to "Elections Commission"

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour reiterated on Tuesday his government's full support to the Independent Elections Commission (IEC), Petra News Agency reported.

At a meeting with the head and members of the board of the Commission, the prime minister said the government will spare no efforts to support the commission to build on past achievements. The Commission, he added, enjoys a good reputation in the region, thanks to its success in overseeing the last parliamentary and municipal elections.

Ensour stressed the importance of the Commission's transparency and integrity in conducting elections, reiterating the government's keenness on ensuring and safeguarding the IEC's independence. He also urged all the concerned institutions to cooperate with the Commission to develop its work in line with best international standards.

President of the Commission, Riyad Shakaa, expressed pride in the royal confidence he and his colleagues have been entrusted with to run the IEC. He also spoke about the Commission's mechanisms.
