King meets former Greek prime minister

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - King Abdullah II received on Monday former Greek Prime Minister and President of Socialist International, George Papandreou and the accompanying delegation currently on a visit to the Kingdom to check on the condition of the Syrian refugees in the Kingdom , Petra News Agency.

During the meeting, held at Husseinieh Palace, the King reviewed the repercussions of the crisis in Syria on neighboring countries, mainly on Jordan which is hosting 1.3 million Syrian refugees on its territory.

His Majesty pointed to the economic burden the Kingdom is shouldering as a result of hosting the refugees and the tremendous pressure they place on infrastructure and services, mainly in the northern governorates due to the continuous services offered to the Syrian refugees.

"Jordan's continued handling of the repercussions of the crisis in Syria requires the support of the international organization as well as all other organizations operating in this field to enable the Kingdom to continue providing services to the refugees and ease the pressure facing its already limited resources," the King added.

Papandreou praised Jordan's role under the leadership of His Majesty the King to address issues of the region, mainly the Syrian refugees. He also hailed King Abdullah's continued efforts to bring about peace, security and stability to the region.

The meeting was attended by the Royal Court chief and the director of the King's Office.

The London-based Socialist International was established in 1951. It is a worldwide organization of social democratic, socialist and labour parties. It currently brings together 168 political parties and organizations from all continents.
