PM, British envoy discuss economic, trade ties

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour met on Saturday with Baroness Morris of Bolton, the trade envoy of British Prime Minister David Cameron to Jordan, Kuwait and the Palestinian territories, to discuss Jordanian-UK economic and investment ties , Petra News Agency.

Baroness Morris is visiting Jordan within the context of meetings and contacts of the Strategic Economic Dialogue Initiative launched by His Majesty King Abdullah II and British Prime Minister David Cameron to forge closer economic and trade ties between Jordan and Britain.

During the meeting, attended by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Hatim Halawani and the British Ambassador to Jordan, Peter Millet, Ensour said Jordan is interested in enhancing trade relations with the UK both at the bilateral level and through the European Union. The Jordanian government, he added, is seeking to an attractive investment climate, urging the British business community to seize the opportunities currently available to do business in the Kingdom and benefit from its unique location to access regional markets.

The prime minister pointed to a royal directive issued recently to his government to draw up a 10-year economic blueprint, pledging to carry out the royal order that would boost the economy and increase the competitiveness of the Jordanian economy.

He said the government is pushing for legislation to a suitable business environment, noting that an Investment bill which will be presented to the Lower House during its extraordinary session beginning tomorrow, would offer more privileges to investors.

The British envoy said her country is willing to further cement relations with Jordan, mainly in the economic and trade fields.
