Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - By R.B.Sinclair - The State Security Court sentenced, today, 11 men to prison after they were found guilty of affiliation to Al Qaeda.

The sentences were handed down at the conclusion of the longest terror trial in Jordan's history. The sentence varied from 4 years to 20 years terms.

The young men, age 19 to 25, were accused of planning attacks targeting Western diplomatic missions and shopping centers in Amman.

Families of the defendants were angered by the harsh verdict. They expected a more lenient ruling since recent prison sentences in similar cases ranged between 3 to 5 years

Defense attorneys accused the government of “obstructing and withholding” evidence in order to secure a guilty verdict.

The prosecutor failed to present direct evidence linking the men to AlQaeda.
