Israeli document proposes moving Arabs in The Triangle, Wadi Ara

25-03-2014 02:05 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Israeli Foreign Ministry has prepared a legal document proposing to move Arabs living in "The Triangle" and Wadi Ara into the 1948 Palestinian occupied territories when the two parties reach a peace agreement.

Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz on Tuesday reported that the document would require the consent of the Palestinians, could not leave anyone without citizenship and would involve a mechanism for compensation.

Over the past few years, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman proposed a land and population exchange that paved the way to moving Arabs in 'The Triangle" area to the future Palestinian state.

Foreign Ministry legal advisor Ehud Keinan submitted an 18-page report, claiming that even if the move is conducted without the explicit consent of the population involved, "it is not wrongful under international law, as long as the transferred population has a clear citizenship of some kind after the transfer." The report also addressed the impact on Israel's global image if the Knesset were to vote on a resolution to implement the document.
