Ammon News - Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said the government will present an amended draft law, replacing the 2014 Water Authority Law, with the aim to end corruption in the water and agricultural sector, stop violations of water networks as well as check attempts to dig illegal water wells.
In remarks during a session of the Lower House of Parliament, chaired by Speaker Atef Tarawneh, Ensour said the government had closed down hundreds of illegal water wells, adding that it is currently working to end violations against water networks.
He voiced hope that the Lower House will approve the amended law soon.
MP Abdul Karim Dughmi asked the government about the measures taken to stop violations in the water sector, details of illegal wells closed as well as ways to address this issue.
Responding to Dughmi's comments, Minister of Water and Irrigation Hazim Nasser said the number of illegal water wells stands at 1,300, noting that the minister is continuously working to end violations and has been even referring certain cases to court.
