PM: Ending misuse of government vehicles is public, parliamentary and government demand

27-01-2014 04:58 PM

Ammon News - Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour stressed the importance of installing Global Positioning Systems (GPS) in government vehicles to manage and control the movements of these vehicles and stop their misuse.

During a visit to the Royal Jordanian Geographical Center (RJGC), Ensour called for implementing this reform project that would contribute towards cutting fuel consumption and increasing the treasury's revenues as it is a national project, not just a technical requirement.

The prime minister, who also chaired a meeting attended by a number of ministers, director of the RJGC, a representative of the army chief and other RJGC officials, said stopping the use of government cars for private purposes is a public, parliamentary and government demand.

He urged all concerned departments and agencies to ensure the implementation of this project and build on the experience of a number of institutions that have partially implemented this project.

The Cabinet recently entrusted the transport minister with contacting the RJGC to examine the possibility of implementing this project in cooperation with the ministries of transport and public works and housing as well as the General Supplies Department.

Last September, the Council of Ministers approved the installation of GPS devices in all the 11,000 government vehicles to monitor their movement.
