Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday urged Jordanian truck drivers not to cross into Iraq via the main border post for the time being for security reasons, official news agency Petra reported.
The diplomatic mission said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Petra, that Iraq's international highway in Treibil was witnessing military and security operations "from time to time," which endangered trucks "regardless of their nationality." The embassy added that it was in contact with the concerned Iraqi authorities to secure the transit of a number of Jordan-bound trucks, stuck along the highway, as quickly as possible.
It also urged Jordanian nationals to keep in touch with the embassy or with the Jordanian border security authorities for information before crossing the frontier.
The border crossing, known as Treibil or Karama, is 370 km from Amman to the east, and is used to bring into Jordan vital crude oil that covers about 10 per cent of its daily needs. Jordan also exports vegetables and other commodities to its neighbour.
