Ammon News - Jordan Times - His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), on Tuesday inaugurated the Gendarmerie Department’s peacekeeping and human rights training centre.

The King, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, was briefed on the facility’s duties and objectives, particularly in entrenching human rights principles and fostering peacekeeping efforts.

The centre is equipped with “state-of-the-art equipment” and includes several “cutting-edge” technical systems.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben and Gendarmerie Department Director General Maj. Gen. Ahmad Sweilmin were present at the inauguration ceremony.

The King and Crown Prince also attended a security drill performed by Gendarmerie forces in cooperation with the JAF’s King Hussein Bin Ali Brigade’s special operations unit.

Participants in the exercise showcases their skills in sniping, leading raid operations, freeing hostages and combating terrorism.

King Abdullah commended the Gendarmerie Department’s efforts to protect the Kingdom’s resources and safeguard its achievements.

Sweilmin said the Gendarmerie Department has progressed significantly in its modernisation plans under the support of King Abdullah and with the aim of entrenching justice and respecting human rights.
