Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordanians on Saturday will mark the eightieth anniversary of the Amman hotel bombings, when coordinated attacks targeted three of the capital’s hotels in November 2005, killing 60 people and injuring 115.
The first explosion occurred at 9:30 PM local time at the Radisson SAS Hotel, followed minutes later by an explosion at nearby Grand Hyatt Amman Hotel and another at the Days Inn hotel.
Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, claimed responsibility for the attacks, but said in a audio recording on the Internet later on Friday that his organization was not targeting wedding parties of Muslims in Jordan. Al-Zarqawi warned Jordanians of more attacks and threatened attempts to assassinate Jordanian officials. About year later, Zarqawi was killed in American Airstrike in Iraq.
