Ammon News - (Petra) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh discusses with US Secretary of State John Kerry bilateral ties, and the latest developments in the region, mainly the peace process and the Syrian crisis.
The two sides stressed the need to continue coordination and consultations on various issues within the distinguished partnership between the two countries and their leaderships.
Kerry briefed Judeh on the outcome of his visit to the region as well as his meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Judeh reiterated the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, noting that Jordan considers the establishment of a Palestinian state as a top Jordanian national interest.
The two sides also discussed the Syrian crisis and highlighted the importance of holding the Geneva 2 Conference to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Kerry voiced appreciation for Jordan ’s efforts under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve peace and stability in the region and said the US supports these efforts.
In a join press conference following the meeting, Judeh stressed the importance of the US secretary of State’s visit to the Kingdom, adding this reflects keenness to maintain contacts with Jordan and His Majesty.
He said that His Majesty held talks with Kerry important and comprehensive talks with Kerry on a number of issues.
He said what is important about the negotiations is that they should end in 9 months, adding that they started on July 30.
Judeh called for an end to the Israeli unilateral actions and settlements and stressed the need to demarcate borders that guarantee an end to settlements.
