King wishes Jordanians a happy Hijri New Year

Ammon News - Petra- His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday wished Jordanians a happy Hijri New Year.

The King also attended an official ceremony marking the occasion at King Abdullah I Mosque, organised by the Awqaf Ministry.

Al Hijra marks the anniversary of Prophet Mohammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina.

This year, Al Hijra anniversary, Muharram 1, 1435 on the Islamic lunar calendar, is on November 5.

Awqaf Minister Hayel Dawood and Jordan's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Karim Khasawneh spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the importance of the prophet's migration, which led to the formation of the first Muslim state.

The King received cables of congratulations from several leaders of Arab and Muslim countries on the occasion.

He also received similar cables from Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour and other senior officials and officers.
