AMMONNEWS - House Deputy Atif Tarawneh on Sunday won the position of Speaker of the 17th House of Representatives, by acclamation, following the withdrawal of Abd Al Kareim Al Dughmi from the second round race.
Abd Al Kareim Al Dughmi and Atif Tarawneh, Sa'ad Hail Srour were nominated for the position.
Abd Al Kareim Al Dughmi withdrew from the nomination for the position in the last minute of starting the second round, giving the win to Atif Tarawneh, who won in the first round, by acclamation.
Ahmad Al Safadi was elected speaker’s first deputy and Mazin Dallaein second deputy.
The vote came during the second Parliament ordinary session on Sunday in which the MPs chose the deputy speakers and the legislature's various committees.
Tarawneh is a representative for the southern governorate of Karak.
Srour is a representative for northern Badia, previous house speaker and Veteran MP.
In total, 145 MP voted, 5 absentees for different reasons.
