200 day opinion poll reveals decline in public evaluation of Ensour's government

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – By Shaherah Khatatbeh - The Center for Strategic Studies of the University of Jordan held a press conference on Wednesday announced the results of the public opinion poll conducted to survey citizen's opinions on Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour's government, 200 days after it was formed.

Results revealed that there is substantial difference in performance evaluation of the government in compared of the poll results conducted at the formation of the government.

The poll surveyed public opinion on several main issues that have faced the current government since it was formed: Critical economic situation, Parliament , Syrian refugees influence, the National initiative Zmzam, protests and strikes throughout the kingdom.


The poll, surveyed 1200 participants. The public opinion leaders' sample consisted of 700 . The total percentage of respondents reached 96 percent. The margin of error of the poll is +/- 2.5 percent.

About the Prime Minister and the cabinet

The results revealed that 45 percent of the national sample believe that the government was relatively able to carryout responsibilities of the time frame of 200 days since it was formed, this is compared to 60 percent that believed the government would be able to carryout its responsibilities in the public opinion poll conducted at the formation of the government.

48 percent said that the Prime Minister was able to carryout responsibilities, compared to 60% at the poll conducted when the government was first formed.

40% found the cabinet (minus the Prime Minister) was able to carryout its responsibilities, compared to 53% at the initial poll in October 2012.

The results revealed that the public opinion's evaluation of the cabinet's ability to carryout responsibilities has declined "fundamentally" since the evaluation of public opinion expectations at the time the cabinet was formed.

Opinion Leaders Sample

The opinion leaders' sample results revealed that 52 of respondents from this sample believe that the government was relatively able to carryout responsibilities of the time frame of 200 days since it was formed, this is compared to 57 % that believed the government would be able to carryout its responsibilities in the public opinion poll conducted at the formation of the government.

60% said that the Prime Minister was able to carryout responsibilities, compared to 65% at the poll conducted when the government was first formed.

43% found the cabinet (minus the Prime Minister) was able to carryout its responsibilities, compared to 50% at the initial poll.

It is noted that the opinion leaders' performance evaluation of the Prime Minister is more positive than the public opinion national sample, where is the opinion leaders' evaluation of the cabinet's performance is nearly identical to the national sample's evaluation.
