‘Woman found burnt to death in suspected murder’

29-10-2013 11:42 AM

Ammon News - Jordan Times - Authorities on Monday said they were investigating the death of a married woman at her home in Irbid Governorate, some 80km north of the capital.

Civil Defence Department firefighters found the 34-year-old woman, who was not identified, burnt to death in the living room of her house on Monday morning, a senior official source said.

Coroners at the scene established that the woman “was most probably murdered, since there were no traces of fire on the room’s furniture”, the source told The Jordan Times.

He added that investigators found a gas cylinder in a nearby room and “believe that it was used in the incident”.

A post-mortem examination of the victim by pathologist Ali Shotar indicated that she died of burns that covered 90 per cent of her body, a second source said.

The criminal prosecutor is currently questioning the victim’s husband and other relatives, he added.

“The husband claimed he was not at home when the incident occurred,” the second source told The Jordan Times.

The victim’s four children were at their grandfather’s home when the incident occurred, he added.
