Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A Jordanian journalist announced that he is seeking political asylum in Sweden, citing that he has been facing severe security pressures and threats in the past three years as a result of his work in the media.
Alaa Fazaa', who runs the "Khabar Jo" Jordanian news website, arrived in Stockholm this past week and issued a press release where he announced that he is seeking political asylum in Sweden.
Fazza' said that he intends to disclose information that will "surprise everyone" regarding the security and political pressures he had faced in the past three years as a result of his journalism practice.
He cites that he has been faced with threats that "reached their peak in the past six months, and reached the stage of insinuating a threat to my personal safety," Fazaa' said in the press release.
"From here, and despite all the conditions, I will dedicate all I have of time and effort to expose the unjust practices and the corrupt in my country Jordan. I will exert all my efforts to expose them before the Jordanian people, and before the international forums which [they] fear more than they fear us," the statement added.
Fazaa' is a political activist who works in electronic media, and is the publisher of "Khabar Jo" (News Jo) online news website.
He ran in the latest parliamentary elections held in January 2013, but did not win a seat in parliament.
It remains unclear whether his political asylum request from Sweden has been approved.
