Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Dozens of Irbid residents protested on Friday calling for genuine and tangible economic and political reforms in the kingdom.

Protesters blasted the Jordanian government, the newest of which was formed on Wednesday, for stalled reform measures.

The demonstration, held following Friday midday prayer from the Hashemi Mosque in Irbid, also denounced Arab "rulers," chanting slogans that the "Arab rulers betrayed their peoples," in reference to ongoing conflict in neighboring countries such as Syria and Egypt.

A large presence by demonstrators from the Islamist movement in Jordan was noticeable at the demonstration.

They denounced Jordan's official stance in support of Egypt's military and its interim government in its crackdown on what protesters deemed "peaceful pro-political legitimacy" demonstrations in Egypt, but escalating measures have been described by Egyptian authorities as "counter-terrorism."

Jordan had expressed its full support for Egyptian authorities in confronting "terrorism," in light of the ongoing events escalating in Egypt following the "coup" that deposed Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi.

The protesters described Jordan's official stance towards Egypt as "pro-coup."

Jordanian demonstrators also criticized Arab and Egyptian media outlets, considering that the coverage of events in Egypt are biased towards Egyptian authorities against the Muslim Brotherhood and Islam.
