Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) issued nearly 27,700 environmental violation tickets to drivers in the capital Amman during the first half of 1013, caught through cameras and environmental patrol units that register littering violations.
Head of the Electronic Monitoring Department at GAM Ali Mrafi said that the aim of implementing the system is to correct drivers' manners and behavior in maintaining a clean environment and clean streets in the city.
Mrafi noted that the violations are issued through patrol units of GAM employees and Environmental Police who register violations through cameras. The units capture images of the violation and refer it to the Traffic Department to issue violations in accordance with the law.

In 2012, GAM recorded 56,000 environmental violations related to public littering from vehicles.
GAM launched its program in 2006 to monitor negative environmental behavior through deploying camera-equipped patrol units throughout the capital Amman. The project aims to improve citizens' behavior in maintaining a clean environment.
