Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian capital Amman is supplied with nearly 400,000 cubic meters of water daily, 110,000 of which will be pumped through the Disi water conveyance project, an official said.
Head of the Operations Management at Myahuna Water Company, Ghazi Hammash said on Wednesday that the 60-70 water tanks used to supply Amman residents with water upon disruption of service will not be used anymore.
The extra water supply would be covered by the Disi water conveyance project, which will pump around 110,00 cubic meters of water daily, providing sufficient water supply to cover the capital's needs.
Lab tests and experimental pumping to Amman conducted last week confirmed the safety of the drinking water from the Disi aquifer, which contains high levels of natural radioactive particles, after it was mixed with fresh water from the Zai treatment plant.
The 340 kilometer pipeline Disi water project is expected to provide the capital Amman with 110 million cubic meters annually, which will be pumped to the Western Amman Dabouq reservoir, with 250,000 cubic meters capacity, and the southern Amman Abu Alanda reservoir, with a capacity of 120,000 cubic meters, after passing through several water stations in the governorates of Tafileh, Maan, and Madaba.
Actual drinking water pumping from the Disi project is expected to commence next week at 50 percent capacity, the official said.
