Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) – The Lower House on Tuesday voted to endorse the article about early retirement in the temporary social security law after financial and labour committees of the House made amendments that struck a balance between the rights of social security subscribers and protection of the Social Security Corporation's SSC funds.
During a session chaired by Speaker Saad Hayel Srour and attended by cabinet ministers, lawmakers debated the divisive bill with some MPs demanding its repeal, arguing that early retirement was not applicable in all countries, except for Oman.
Under the article at stake, the SSC had to pay a pension to a subscriber if his/her services were terminated for any reason provided they were fifty years of age and had 252 real subscriptions for a male and 228 for a female or a total of 300 subscriptions of an insured person provided they were not below the age of 45.
The legislature also approved the mechanism to calculate an early retirement salary and specific retirement conditions for "hazardous" professions that differed from the other jobs in terms of years spent in service and the number of real subscriptions of an insured person.
