Ammon News - Hungarian dairy products concern Kõröstej has beaten off Dutch, Austrian and Australian competition to secure a lucrative contract to supply Jordan’s 100,000-strong army with cheese, financial news broadcaster Gazdasági Rádió reported on Wednesday.
The group achieved turnover of HUF 15 billion (EUR 50.71 million) in the first five months of this year and is among Hungary’s largest exporters of cheese.
While domestic cheese consumption is dominated by the much-maligned Trappista sajt, exports tend to be of processed cheeses and spreads.
Jordan’s military will be supplied with long-life tinned cheese.
“With this agreement we plan to export many tonnes of cheese to the army,” said the Kõröstej group’s Lebanese director, Riad Naboulsi, who founded the firm in 1989. (The Budapest Times)
