Ammon News - MONACO (Reuters) - Ronaldo was speaking at a cocktail gala for a jewelry firm in Monaco on Thursday.
The 28-year-old Ronaldo has two years to run on his current contract at Real Madrid, but at the end of the European season, gossip has linked him to the AS Monaco club, or even a return to the English Premier League and his old team Manchester United.
But Ronaldo indicated that Real Madrid was where he would stay.
“I'm enjoying of course to play there,” he said outside Monaco's Hotel de Paris. “I've played in Spain for four years so I want to continue there. And for the national team also that we can qualify for the World Cup will be a big goal for us, so we are focused on that and I look forward to being in the World Cup too.
“No it's not the best day to speak about my future,” he said. “I'm going to have time to speak about that at the beginning of the season. The most important thing to enjoy the day with Jacob & Co. and my colleagues and my friends so I'm focused on that.”
Ronaldo was reluctant to explain more about his plans, other than rest and recuperation.
“Basically it's to rest [after] 10 months of hard season. It's basically to rest, to be with my family, my kid, my girlfriend and to rest,” he said.
The Portuguese said that he was content to be facing another season in La Liga.
“I'm always looking forward to being better and better during the season so this year's going to be the same. I will try to be focused every time to win the La Liga and the Champions [League] like we always do.”
Ronaldo was also happy to scotch the rumors about a return to Manchester United.
“A club that it's been in my heart since I was there,” he said. “So everyone knows that I have a passion for that club but my future now it's at Real Madrid and I want to be there.”
