Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Imam of King Hussein Mosque in Amman on Friday called on Jordanians to "disconnect the internet" during the holy month of Ramadan and focus on worship and good deeds.

During his sermon before Friday midday prayer, Imam Ghaleb Rababah said that Muslims should "disconnect internet lines" and refrain from going to Ramadan "tents," a rising phenomenon during the holy month of Ramadan which turn into coffee shops and venues to smoke Argeeleh after sunset.

The internet, according to the imam, preoccupies Muslims away from worship and remembrance of God and doing good deeds in Ramadan.

"Let go of this habit," the imam said in the sermon, broadcasted on Jordan state Television, as he highlighted some of what he considered "negative" habits in Ramadan, such as fasting while not performing daily prayers, giving charity, not wearing modest Islamic dress for women, and the excessive shopping and traffic jams witnessed in Ramadan, especially as the holy month comes during the summer season this year and in the next few years.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour attended the sermon and performed Friday prayer at Al Hussein bin Talal Mosque in Western Amman on Friday.
