AMMAN — The Labour Ministry on Saturday launched the second phase of the National Employment Campaign, which was initiated last year with the goal of creating thousands of jobs for Jordanians in cooperation with the private sector.

With the participation of more than 150 institutions specialised in marketing, industries and handicrafts, the second phase aims to jobs for unemployed people with disabilities (PWD) and women, according to the ministry.

Labour Ministry Secretary General Hamadah Abu Nejmeh, who inaugurated the campaign’s second round deputising for Labour Minister Nidal Katamine, said the ministry hopes the four-day campaign will succeed in securing jobs for thousands of unemployed individuals from vulnerable groups to help them enhance their living conditions and have a steady source of income for their families.

“We expect to secure more than 2,500 jobs for the targeted groups in cooperation with private companies, which have been very cooperative with the ministry since the initiative started last year,” he said.

“We also hope to make an additional 1,000 jobs available for women, who will be able to work from home in the marketing field with an expected salary of JD1,000 per month on average,” Abu Nejmeh said.

He added that the partner companies in the campaign are willing to provide the those necessary training for those who apply for jobs as part of the campaign.

Abu Nejmeh noted that the National Employment Campaign, which aims at providing employment opportunities to around 20,000 Jordanians, has secured jobs for more than 13,800 individuals across the country since it started last year.

In previous statements to The Jordan Times, Katamine said 25,000 job seekers will have secured jobs by the end of July as a result of the ministry’s extensive efforts over the past few months in cooperation with the private sector.
