Ammon News - AMMAN - Hezbollah forces reached the northern borders of Jordan to fight anti-Assad forces and built on recent victories in Homs, Syrian opposition and Jordanian sources said on Thursday. The information could not be officially confirmed.
The arrival of the Iran backed militia group to the border region has set fear among Syrians of impending reprisal from residents of border towns, pushing them to escape in big numbers to Jordan, activist Abu Abdullah Hourani told ANSA.
''We have solid information that Hizbollah fighters are arriving in the Deraa region to help the Syrian government regain some positions,'' Abu Khatab said.
Jordanian officials have confirmed that number of Syrian refugees crossing to the kingdom has increased over the past few days, but declined to link the situation to Hezbollah arrival.
Jordanian security sources said they are alarmed to the news and will seek further information on the developments, which would cause concern for the kingdom that fears the involvement of Hezbollah could trigger a wide scale of sectarian violence.
The alleged arrival of Hezbollah troops comes as Jordan and several western countries continue military drills across the Jordan territories, which involve air defense, chemical attack and conventional war scenarios.(ANSAmed).
