Srour, Bahraini prime minister discuss ties, region

Ammon News - MANAMA (Petra) - Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Saad Hayel Srour met with Bahraini Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifah Bin Salman Al Khalifah to discuss security challenges as well as regional developments, particularly the Syrian crisis and the Palestinian issue.

Srour reviewed the political, economic and social impact of the Syrian crisis and the flow of hundreds of thousands of refugees into Jordan, adding that the Kingdom is shouldering additional burdens that outpace its limited resources. He also spoke about Jordan's comprehensive reform process led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve a better future for Jordanians and entrench democracy, pluralism and public participation in the decision making process.

Also, Srour stressed Jordan's continued support to Bahrain, adding that if Bahrain is secure and stable, then Jordan will also remain secure and stable.

The Lower House chief stressed the need to arrive at a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also highlighted the need to find a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis that ends bloodshed and violence, while preserving Syrian unity.

The Bahraini prime minister praised the strong ties between Jordan and Bahrain, as well as King Abdullah's support to Bahrain's security and stability.

He said both countries see eye-to-eye on various issues, at the top of which is combating terrorism and the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Srour also discussed with the Bahraini prime minister ways of boosting economic, investment and educational ties.

Earlier, Srour and his accompanying delegation visited the Bahraini Interior Ministry where he met with Sheikh Rashid Bin Abdullah Al Khalifah and discussed a number of issues of common interest.

Srour also reviewed Jordan's stance on developments in the region, mainly the Syrian crisis and the Palestinian issue.

Sheikh Rashid stressed Bahrain's interest in developing cooperation with Jordan in various fields.
