King Abdullah inaugurates Jordanian-Russian RPG factory

31-05-2013 12:58 PM

Ammon News - ZARQA — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday inaugurated the JADARA Equipment and Defence Systems Company’s (JRESCO) factory. The company is a subsidiary of King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau’s (KADDB) Investment Group (KIG), the investment arm of the bureau.

The ceremony was attended by Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Hussein and Prince Feisal.

JADARA is a Jordanian-Russian project established for the assembling, manufacturing and development of RPGs. Its first product will be the “Nashab” RPG-32, a portable short range weapon that has unique qualities and accurate precision, a Royal Court statement said.

The King unveiled the commemorative plaque, toured the assembly line of the “Nashab” and attended a live firing of JADARA’s RPG-32 to illustrate the functions of the weapon, “which is highly efficient in penetrating armoured vehicles and destroy bunkers”, the statement said, adding that another major feature is that it can be fired from semi-confined spaces. “Nashab, which is used by the infantry troops, is prone to improve the combat capabilities of the armed forces.”

The “Nashab” is also expected to be favoured by the armies of the region as it is considered an upgraded version with highly advanced features of previous models of RPGs. The export procedures of such a weapon comply with UN rules in this regard to guarantee the transparency of the process, according to the statement.

During the ceremony, His Majesty listened to a speech by KADDB’s Chairman and CEO, and Chairman of KIG Shadi Al Majali, followed by a speech by Sergy Chemezov, director general of Russian Technologies State Corporation, and then a briefing about JADARA and its future plans by its general manager, Brig. Gen. Bassam Issa (rtd).

KIG seeks to establish partnerships in the defence and security industries along with the supporting services that complement these industries. The scope of work covered by the group and its subsidiaries includes heavy industries, the manufacture of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, army equipment, arms and ammunition, in addition to back-office services.

It is worth mentioning that KADDB is an independent government entity within the Jordan Armed Forces, established in 1999 by a Royal Decree for the supply of high quality, efficient and cost-effective scientific and technical research and development services in defence, security and automotive industries.

The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, King’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mishaal Al Zaben in addition to ministers, chiefs of security bodies, senior officials and officers, Russian Ambassador in Amman Alexander Kalugin and embassy staff.
