Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) - The international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) are urging recognition of Jordan's urgent need for international aid to enable it to bear the costs as it provides aid and assistance to the continuing flow of Syrian refugees.

Communications officer at MSF, Enass Abu Khalaf, told Petra on Thursday that the organization came to realize, while working in the Zaatari Camp, the reality of hosting the refugees , in which Jordan has spared no efforts to keep up with the crisis over the past months.

Head of the organization in Jordan, Antoine Foucher, said that the continuous flow of refugees has aggravated the problem, leading to more pressures being placed on the Jordanian community, especially in the northern region where the population doubled within a few months.

"In light of the absence of international political and financial commitments, Jordan is facing two difficult choices: either to ban the entrance of refugees into the Kingdom or restrict their access to health care services in public facilities, which will exacerbate the already deteriorating living conditions for hundreds of thousands of Syrians" he added.

In a press release issued today, the medical organization said it has established a special pediatric hospital in the Zaatari camp to care for children from the age of 1 month to 10 years, as well as a consulting center for children which, in its first five weeks, coordinated more than 2000 consultations.

MSF has been providing medical care in Jordan since 2006 for injured citizens of Syria, Iraq and Yemen through its reconstructive surgery program. It also has surgical teams in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon offering medical care and psychological services for Syrian refugees, and operates five hospitals in the northern region.
