Number of Syrian refugees crossing into Jordan on the rise again

Ammon News - MAFRAQ (Petra) The number of Syrian refugees entering the Kingdom reached 1,323 earlier in the day, after the refugee flow dropped significantly over the past few days.

Among the refugees, 11 persons crossing the border had been earlier wounded and transported to public hospitals in Irbid and Mafraq for medical care, said General Coordinator for the Affairs of Syrian Refugees in Jordan Anmar Al Humoud.

The refugees were brought to Al Zaatari refugee camp in Mafraq, he said, adding that the number of refugees at the camp has now exceeded 161,000.

Also, authorities have allowed 324 refugees to return to Syria upon their request, noted Al Humoud.

Further, the total number of Syrian refugees inside the Kingdom has reached 538,247 refugees, Al Humoud said, adding that more than 185,000 refugees have entered Jordan since the beginning of 2013. He noted that the recently-opened Mureijeib Al Fhoud camp now has a population of 2,874 Syrian refugees.

More than 59,000 Syrian refugees have voluntarily returned to Syria since the beginning of the crisis, he said.
