Gov't allots JD5 million for local elections

26-05-2013 06:38 PM

Ammon News - AMMAN – The government on Sunday allocated JD5 million to cover the expenses of municipal elections to be held August 27.

Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and government spokesman Mohammad Momani said the amount was agreed to on the grounds that the Ministry of Municipal Affairs had not earmarked any sums in its budget for conducting the polls and municipalities had also not allocated similar funding, Jordan News Agency Petra reported.

Momani added that the Ministry of Finance will deposit the allocation into the Ministry of Municipal Affairs' account.
