King accepts resignation of Elections Commission Chief

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A Royal Decree was issued on Friday accepting the resignation of the President of the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) Board of Commissioners.

King Abdullah II accepted the resignation of Abdul Ilah Khatib as head of the IEC, which oversaw the parliamentary elections held on January 23rd, 2013, the first elections to be organized by an independent body.

Khatib was appointed on May 6, 2012 to head IEC, with the aim of overseeing fair and transparent parliamentary elections.

Khatib is a former Senator, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs in several governments between 1998 and 2007.
