5 policemen injured in refugee camp clashes

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Five policemen were injured Thursday evening in clashes that erupted at the Za'atari camp for Syrian refugees in Mafraq, northwest of Jordan.

A security source told Ammon News that angry refugees hurled rocks at police while distributing water and supplies in the camp.

The source did not elaborate on the cause of the clashes, adding only that the injuries sustained by policemen are minor.

The Za'atari camp hosts over 80,000 Syrian refugees who fled the conflict in neighboring Syria, among the over 540,000 total number of refugees currently in Jordan since the outbreak of violence there two years ago.
