House speaker condemns anti-Bahrain statement by Iranian official

23-05-2013 04:12 PM

Ammon News - * House speaker meets Bahraini ambassador, pledges continuing support for Bahrain

AMMAN--Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Saad Hayel Srour expressed astonishment over a statement attributed to a senior Iranian official regarding the internal situation in Bahrain, describing the Iranian statement as an unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of an Arab country and a violation of all international norms and charters.

In his statement issued on Thursday, Srour condemned threats against Bahrain that came in comments by the assistant Iranian foreign minister following a shooting incident in Bahrain in which 2 Bahraini policemen were injured. "Such statement will incite violence and destabilize the security and stability not only of Bahrain, but also the whole region," Srour added.

The speaker said there is no logic behind the continuation of Iranian threats to Bahrain at a time when relations between countries should be based upon mutual respect and cooperation to serve the interests of the Islamic world.

Srour met with Bahraini Ambassador to Jordan Nasser Al Kaabi on Thursday, and emphasized the strong and historical ties between Jordan and Bahrain, which also remain the priority of His Majesty King Abdullah II and King of Bahrain Hamad Bin Issa Al Khalifah.

Srour said Jordan is focused on maintaining the security and stability of Bahrain, noting that the leaderships of both countries are interested in strengthening ties in various fields for the interest of both peoples.

"Jordan, under the leaders of His Majesty the King, supports Bahrain's stance and its just causes at all international forums", he added.

Discussions during the meeting also dealt with preparations for Srour's visit to Bahrain next month, after he received an invitation from his Bahraini counterpart.

The ambassador said his country valued Jordan's continued support of Bahrain and praised the strong cooperation and coordination between the two countries at all levels. (Petra)
