Ammon News - AMMAN - Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Friday met with Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu and discussed bilateral ties and developments in the region.
During the meeting, the two officials stressed the strong and historical relations between the two countries in all fields, noting the recent visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to Turkey and his successful meetings with the Turkish president and senior officials.
They also stressed the need to continue coordination and consultation on various common – concern issues.
Talks also dealt with the Syrian crisis and its humanitarian impacts, especially on Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon.
Judeh stressed that the international community should shoulder its responsibility in assisting the Kingdom to provide humanitarian aid to the growing number of Syrian refugees, noting that Jordan hosts more than 530,000 Syrian refugees and provides them different services.
The two officials also underlined the need to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria to stop the bloodshed and guarantee Syria's unity, territorial integrity and the safety of its people with the participation of all components of the Syrian people.
Judeh briefed the Turkish official on his recent talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on means to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
He also outlined Jordan's efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to kick-start direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis that should lead to the establishment of a sovereign independent Palestinian state, on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on credible international terms of reference and the Arab Peace Initiative.
In a joint press conference after the meeting, Judeh said he discussed with the Turkish minister the Syrian crisis in light of the recent meeting between the US Secretary of State and his Russian counterpart.
Judeh also reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause remains a key regional issue, highlighting efforts exerted by the US Secretary of State and his contacts with the Palestinians and the Israelis in this respect.
The minister also expressed Jordan's strong condemnation of the recent Israeli violations against Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Judeh also briefed the Turkish minister on Jordan's diplomatic efforts, including the recent visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to Washington.
The Turkish official stressed the importance of His Majesty the King's recent visit to Turkey in promoting bilateral relations, noting that Jordan and Turkey are the two countries most affected by the current situation in Syria.
He also expressed keenness to coordinate with Jordan on the Syrian crisis.
The minister also praised Jordan's efforts under the leadership of Majesty King Abdullah II to realize peace and stability in the region, stressing that Palestine is a key issue for Turkey. (Petra)
