Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Head of the Jordanian Arab and Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Committee on Thursday said that the government's measure to summon the Israeli Ambassador in Amman and expressing denunciation of Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem is "not enough."
MP Bassam Manaseer, who heads the Foreign Affairs Committee, considered the government's measure an attempt to go around the demands of parliament, which called for the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador from the kingdom and recalling Jordan's Ambassador from Tel Aviv.
In statements to Ammon News, the lawmaker described the government measure to summon the Israeli Ambassador as a mere "attempt to absorb the outrage of the people and their representatives in parliament."
The MP stressed that parliament will continue to demand the ouster of the Ambassador from Jordan and will continue deliberating on the developments in occupied Jerusalem in its session on Sunday.
MP Manaseer disclosed that the Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee is conducting extensive communications with parliaments of Arab and Muslim countries to pressure Israel to cease its aggression against holy sites in Jerusalem.
He told Ammon News that the Committee will call for a meeting with European Ambassadors in Amman to discuss the ongoing Israeli violations, and to reiterate Jordan's stance towards the Arab-Israeli conflict.
"The issue of Jerusalem for Jordanians is not only an emotional and affectional issue, but it reaches the point of a challenge when the holy sites are being desecrated," Manaseer told Ammon News, adding "such provocations cannot go unanswered."
The MP's statements comes a day after the Lower House voted unanimously to ask the government to oust the Israeli Ambassador in Amman and recall Jordan's Ambassador from Tel Aviv. The non-binding vote also delegated the Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee with drafting a strongly-worded letter to the government in regards to the Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
